Seldom do you find such an exquisite opportunity to preserve Virginia history. c.1840 Mill Hill includes an ensemble of domestic and agricultural buildings reflecting Nelson County's farm practices from the antebellum period. The house retains hand-carved mantels, grained doors, and interior trim showing the integrity of design, artistry, and materials.

Approaching the property, you cross the small bridge over the South Fork of the Rockfish River to the driveway on the right that curves to the east past the barn and caretaker's house, leading to the house at the end of the driveway. The property line along the river is wooded, with mature trees scattered throughout the property. Evergreens shelter the house on the north and west sides. A contemporary tiered formal garden and bocce court make a statement on the south side.

The main entrance to the home invites you through doors with Greek Revival trim to the original portion of the house, which has two principal rooms on each level. The main level consists of the living room, library, and a pass-through butler's pantry. The primary suite is located in the rear wing on the main level and it is accessed through a door in the living room and by the back stairs.

There are two bedrooms upstairs, each with their own bath. The landing between the bedrooms has access to the front balcony. Doors are grained and the artistry and workmanship can be seen at every turn.

The English Basement level has two rooms in the core of the house, with a transverse hall between them leading to the rear kitchen addition. The original rooms have exposed ceiling beams and brick walls. A Lasy Susan is set in the wall between the dining room and hall. It has curved tin doors with punch work on both sides of the partition and four round revolving shelves on the interior.

Turning the corner, you will discover the large open country kitchen lined with windows, a door leading to the patio, and a formal garden. Instantly, it is easy to imagine becoming the next owner of this outstanding legacy.

Outbuildings include a guest cottage, caretaker apartment, horse barn, pony barn, bank barn, ice house, schoolhouse, poultry house, and dog run.
